An Innovative New Experience

The San Diego Zoo spreads the word of animal conservation through education. The zoo has added a new exhibit called The Wildlife Explorers Basecamp aka the Children's Zoo project is a 4.97-acre (216,493 sf) project located in the southeastern corner of the existing San Diego Zoo.

The complete redesign of the Children’s Zoo offers a fresh opportunity to intrigue and delight guests of all ages, creating an immersive environment for children and families following four environmental biomes with animal exhibits and landscapes associated with those biomes.

This exciting new space will include up-close encounters with animals, hands-on learning opportunities, and immersive technologies, connecting existing infrastructure and pathways of the zoo while establishing unique access ways for service and emergency vehicles.
